Welcome to our charming French holiday home, set in an idyllic location, with pool and tennis court. Le Tilleul enjoys a south facing aspect with spectacular panoramic views over the surrounding countryside and is one of six holiday properties sharing the large grounds, swimming pool and tennis court. The 150 year old farmhouse has been sympathetically restored, retaining many original features including a large stone fireplace on the ground floor and exposed oak timbers in every room.

The pretty village of Vanxains is less than a mile away and has an attractive bar in the square, which also sells bread and other essentials. The Domaine de Champagnac is under 10 minutes drive from the market town of Riberac, and only 15 minutes from Aubeterre - officially one of the most picturesque villages of France. Both of these provide a wide range of cafes and restaurants and there are also a number of good places to eat in nearby hamlets and villages.

This is a fantastic area of France and after looking at several properties in various parts of the country, I knew Le Tilleul was the one - it ticks all the right boxes for me. The peaceful rural location with stunning panoramic views; the comfort and character of a quality renovation; walkable village amenities; large swimming pool and all-weather tennis court; quiet lanes for walking and cycling and a good base for exploring SW France. Playing tennis in such a beautiful setting is a particular joy for us both and it’s always fun canoeing a new stretch of river or relaxing on the beach at nearby Lake Jemaye.

I've loved France since childhood visits with my parents and it is now a great joy to have a home in this beautiful part of ‘the real France’. We feel very welcomed by the French locals and there is so much fun to be had joining in the local festivals, music events and regional food celebrations – which include duck, goose, foie gras and Bordeaux wine. A new store in the village is a great showcase for some of the fine local producers and there’s a good choice of restaurants within 10 minutes drive from Le Tilleul. Riberac’s large weekly market is always a most sociable event and one of the largest in the region offering a wide range of food, clothes, homeware and presents. A visit to the acclaimed and pretty small town of Aubeterre is always a delight too.

VISITOR COMMENTS

We had a wonderful, relaxing stay in Vanxains. The house is really well equipped for a family of four and had everything we needed. The swimming pool was well looked after and we really enjoyed the tennis court, but the best thing was the beautiful views from the terrace and the peace and tranquility. This is the best holiday rental we have ever stayed in and we would love to return for another holiday.

What a wonderful location and an ideal spot to relax and unwind. The tennis certainly made us feel less guilty about eating and drinking so much. Canoeing in Brantome was fab, a lovely location and some great restaurants. St Emilion was as beautiful as we remember from our trip there many years ago. Thanks again for providing such a lovely comfortable base to explore the region.

FAMILY A, NORFOLK -September 2017

Most enjoyable stay – far too busy with all there is to do. Highlights:
· BBQ’s on the patio with wonderful view and lovely sunsets
· Hiking in the forest and the lakeside activities at Grande Etang de Jemaye
· Brantome and Bourdeilles – canoeing, swimming and sightseeing
· Medieval fete at Vallereuil
· Aubeterre and walks nearby.

We flew into Bordeaux and hired a car to travel onward to the Villa. Unfortunately we didn't appreciate that it was a Public Holiday and all the supermarkets were closed, luckily we found a patisserie open...so we would advice you to check before departing. The villa itself was lovely, well furnished and in excellent condition. We had terrific views looking out over the rolling hills, a swimming pool (shared) and tennis court. It was an extremely quiet, even with 3 other villas occupied. We found that one week wasn't sufficient really, two would of been nice. The market at Riberac was one of the biggest in the area, Perigeaux and Bergerac are well worth a visit. My grandson who is eight loved having the freedom of running around, having the swimming pool and tennis court to use as and when required, so again ideal for a family of six. We would certainly recommend this villa and would have no hesitation in going back. But as said preferably for two weeks.

Lovely stay - the view is superb - so good, we found it hard to tear ourselves away. Therefore, a lot of “chill out” days in the garden and made full use of the tennis court.

Family L, Bristol -August 2013

We have had a glorious week here in glorious weather. All amenities have been excellent. As seasoned visitors to France it has been a revelation to discover the beauties of this almost secret part of the country.

Family T, Cheltenham - August 2013 -August 2013

We had a fantastic holiday. The house is lovely and the sunflowers were in full bloom - what a view!

Family S, Norfolk -July 2013

We have had a lovely week here, enjoying the swimming pool and tennis court and found the gîte very comfortable with all we could possibly need.

Family W, Kent -August 2012

We had a super holiday. Very good location and facilities, especially the lovely large swimming pool and tennis court. There are some very good local restaurants with tasty food at great value. We’ll definitely be coming back to this beautiful part of France.
